A small sea side settlement (population 1700) on the thin coastal plain between the Tasman Sea and the Akatarawa Ranges. It is a railway town and home to the Paekakariki Railway and Heritage Museum.
Local cafés provide refreshment for walkers on the Escarpment Walkway.
GUIDED PAEKAKARIKI ESCARPMENT WALKWAY EXPERIENCE
Initially (in 1886) the rail line from Wellington to Longburn was built by the Wellington and Manawatu Railway Company but was bought by the Government in 1908 to complete the main trunk from Wellington to Auckland.
