364 Sangster Road, Lake Rotokare, South Taranaki
South Taranaki Community Halls
Rotokare is a small lowland lake set in a scenic reserve containing birds and a diverse range of native plants. As a result of community activity a predator proof fence has been erected creating a 'Mainland Island' and intensive pest control is underway.
Allow 1.5 hrs to walk the lake circuit. Parts of the track can be muddy if the weather has been wet, so wear boots. There is also a ridge walk which takes 3-5 hours.
You can take your vehicle in. There is a lock system where you wait for one gate to close before opening the next one. Walking the access road will add about 20 minutes to your journey.
