Camera Obscura Whangarei

Whangarei's Town Basin area is in the midst of upcyling, with the structural additions of Te Matau a Pohe bridge, the sculptural additions upon the Hatea Loop, and the imminent construction of the Hundertwasser Centre.

Camera Obscura is as yet a 'virtual attraction', which it's promoters hope will add to the cultural landscape, in a variety of fashions. A 21st century 'light box', the steel sculpture will share the location with the world via CCTV, and display the environment in a 'different way' inside. It is also planned that the sculpture will be used as an educational tool.

The proposed placement of the installation, beside Te Matau a Pohe is in order to elevate the engineering and architectural success of the bridge, and the surroundings. There are local backers, and a selection of International artists involved.
