119 The Strand, Taneatua-Romata Pa, Whakatane
The Pohaturoa rock is an unmissable landmark in the centre of Whakatane. It has significance to Iwi in its mythology, as a former place of burial for Ariki, as the place for religious ceremonies, and it is also the place where local chiefs signed the Treaty of Waitangi in 1840.
