7 Massey St Motueka 7120 , Motueka, Tasman
The Motueka Beach Reserve, at the end of Wharf Road, was used as a motor camp up until 1999 when it became a recreation reserve. This prime site at Port Motueka runs right up to North Street Reserve, which in turn links to the Trewavas Street Foreshore reserve. All three combined give continuous access to this area of the coast, which is popular with locals and visitors alike.
There are toilets, barbecues, picnic tables and a children’s play area dotted throughout the reserves. The popular Motueka saltwater baths are also accessed from here and there is plenty of space for car parking. All together the three reserves cover over seven hectares so there is plenty of place to spread out for games, picnicking, swimming or just relaxing.
The Bocce court was built in association with the Motueka Special Olympic Association who were keen to see an outdoor venue for the sport established. Council funded the project and the court is now open for public use as well as being used by the Special Olympics group each weekend. It’s a very pleasant spot for a game of petanque or bocce.
