Forgotten World Highway and Rail Journey

State Highway 43 between Taumaraunui and Stratford has been named the Forgotten World Highway. Along the way you can find sites of historic interest with signs explaining their significance. The trip takes 2.5 hours without allowing for stops and diversions and includes unsealed road. An exciting adjunct to the highway is the ability to travel the associated, now disused, railway on a self-drive converted golf cart.
