10 Beattie Street, Whiterigg-McNab, Gore
This park used to be called the Hidden Valley Park - as it was covered in gorse for decades before it was rediscovered and rejuvenated starting in the 1960s.
Originally it was the Gore Cemetery, which was used for burials from 1874 to 1878 after which it as relocated to the larger Crewe Street site.
The Gore Public Swimming baths briefly graced the site in the 1920s but did not last. Then nothing but gorse happened until the 1960s when local solicitor, RB Bannerman begun working to create a 7 hectare reserve.
Now Gore has a large and flourishing, well tended Garden Park, with lots of native and exotic plantings, and the added bonus of friendly deer on the other side of the boundary fence.
NZPlaces would appreciate a picture of Bannerman Park.
