Alma Stevenson Park Playground

Queenstown-Lakes Playgrounds

This park is named after Alma Stevenson, who was a local identity of Arrowtown and contributed a large amount of her time to groups, clubs and events in this town.

Alma was an inspiration to many. She had the skills and ability to help at a moment's notice in many situations; she was always very positive, kind and a friend to all. Alma was also a local author of six books including "Waggoner Jack", a story of her father-in-law, an original waggoner from the Crown Ranger: and "Old Red", about the Arrow Miners' Band truck, which originally cam from the property she farmed with her husband Noel.

Noel and Alma have a long family history in the Arrow region, spanning many generations. They used to live at Walnut Cottage beside Lake Hayes, which they started as a gift shop then became a cafe. Alma Stevenson was a very humble lady but would be proud to be part of this park.
