30 King Street, Rangiora, Waimakariri
Rangiora’s Matawai Park is designed to reflect the native vegetation of Canterbury. Examples of hill country, plains and swamp vegetation are found on a site which was originally lowland swamp forest.
Covering 4 hectares of largely swampy ground, the park is a recreation and education facility that continues to be developed.
Starting in 1970 with what was, and still is, an unusual concept in park design, more than 25,000 trees have so far been planted.
Walks through the park provide ever-changing vistas and it is a wonderful place to rest or picnic awhile.
