3 Hengist Street, Norsewood, Other
An historic 'Scandinavian' village in the area once called Seventy-Mile Bush. The small town (population 330) straddles State Highway 2, 24 km by road north of Dannevirke. There is a pioneer museum housed in a cottage built for in 1888 for the Lutheran minister, Pastor Ries. Seemingly out of place in an inland town is is a Scandinavian fishing boat (Bindalsfareing ) parked in the main street. This was a centennial gift from the Norwegian Government. For many years a woolen clothing industry with the 'Norsewear' brand was centred here. It is no longer locally owned but a factory still manufactures here and its shop may prove an attraction.
