1089 Milton Highway, Lovells Flat, Clutha
The two buildings are on either side of State Highway 1. The cottage, a stopping place in the 1860s for miners heading to the Tuapeka Goldfields was restored by the South Otago Historical Society. The Homestead, a design by Edmund Anscombe, was built in 1915. There is no town at Lovell's flat, it is an area named for the pioneer settler John Lovell who took up a sheep run in the area in the 1850s. The other thing here is a well kept war memorial in reminder that this rural area lost 15 young men in WW1.
